Hebrews 9:27-28
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so CHRIST was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for HIM HE will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.” (Hebrews 9:27-28)
1. The Reality of Death and Judgment
Death is Certain
The Bible clearly states that every person has an appointment with death. It is not optional, and no one can escape it. No matter how much wealth, power, or knowledge a person has, death comes to all. This truth is confirmed in various scriptures:
• Ecclesiastes 3:2 – “A time to be born, and a time to die.”
• Psalm 90:10 – “The days of our lives are seventy years, and if by reason of strength they are eighty, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow.”
Our time on earth is temporary, and death is inevitable. But what happens after death?
Judgment Follows Death
The verse says, “…after this the judgment.” This means that after death, every person must stand before GOD.
• Romans 14:12 – “So then each of us shall give account of himself to GOD.”
• Revelation 20:12 – “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before GOD, and books were opened.”
There are two kinds of judgments:
1. Judgment for Believers (2 Corinthians 5:10) – This is the judgment of rewards for those who accepted JESUS.
2. Judgment for Unbelievers (Revelation 20:11-15) – This is the final judgment for those who rejected CHRIST.
The biggest question is: Are we ready to stand before GOD?
2. CHRIST’S Sacrifice: The Only Way to Escape Judgment
The verse continues: “…so CHRIST was offered once to bear the sins of many.”
JESUS died as a sacrifice for our sins so that we could be saved from GOD’S judgment.
JESUS Died Once for All
Unlike the Old Testament sacrifices that had to be repeated, JESUS’ sacrifice was once and for all.
• 1 Peter 3:18 – “For CHRIST also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that HE might bring us to GOD.”
• John 1:29 – “Behold! The LAMB of GOD who takes away the sin of the world!”
This means that we do not need any more sacrifices. JESUS’ death was enough to pay for our sins.
Who Benefits from JESUS’ Sacrifice?
The verse says, “…to bear the sins of many.” But who are the “many”?
• John 3:16 – “Whoever believes in HIM shall not perish but have eternal life.”
• Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth the LORD JESUS and believe in your heart that GOD has raised HIM from the dead, you will be saved.”
Those who believe in HIM and accept HIS sacrifice receive the forgiveness of sins.
3. The Second Coming of CHRIST
The verse ends with a powerful promise: “…to those who eagerly wait for HIM HE will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”
JESUS Will Return Again
JESUS came the first time as a humble servant to die for our sins. But HIS second coming will be different:
• Acts 1:11 – “This same JESUS, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw HIM go into heaven.”
• Revelation 19:11-16 – Describes JESUS coming as the KING of Kings with power and glory.
For Whom Will HE Return?
The verse says HE will return “to those who eagerly wait for HIM.” This means that HIS second coming is for those who:
• Have truly believed in HIM.
• Are living in faith and obedience.
• Are eagerly waiting for HIS return.
What Will Happen When HE Returns?
• HE will take believers to be with HIM forever (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
• HE will judge the world and establish HIS kingdom.
4. What Should We Do Now?
1. Be Ready for Judgment – We will all stand before GOD. Have you accepted CHRIST’S sacrifice?
2. Trust in JESUS’ Blood – HIS death was the only way to be saved. No religious works can save us.
3. Live in Expectation – JESUS is coming again! Are you waiting for HIM with faith and readiness?
JESUS died once for all, and HE is coming back again. Are you prepared?
May GOD Bless our Readers!
