Palm Sunday: Misunderstood Praise and the Silent Majesty of the King
Introduction
Every year, we see Palm Sunday celebrated with songs, palm leaves, and cheerful “Hosannas!” echoing through churches. It’s the start of Holy Week—the final stretch before the cross and the empty tomb.
But let’s pause for a moment and ask:
What’s the deeper meaning behind Palm Sunday?
Why do we celebrate a day when people misunderstood who JESUS really was?
And what does GOD actually want us to see through this moment?
1. The Triumphal Entry—A Moment Misunderstood
All four Gospels describe JESUS riding into Jerusalem on a donkey.
People lined the roads, waving palm branches and shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
To them, it was a royal welcome. A victory parade.
But they were welcoming a king of their imagination—a political savior, not the suffering servant of GOD.
It fulfilled prophecy (Zechariah 9:9), yes—but not in the way the people expected.
They saw power. JESUS came with peace.
2. The Crowd Wanted a Conqueror, Not a Savior
The people wanted rescue from Rome, not rescue from sin.
Their “Hosanna” meant “Save us now”—but not from their brokenness.
They were looking for a hero, not a redeemer.
Even JESUS’ own disciples didn’t fully get it (see Acts 1:6).
That’s why JESUS wept over Jerusalem.
He saw the disconnect. He saw hearts that were cheering, but not truly understanding.
“If only you had known what would bring you peace...” (Luke 19:42)
3. The Donkey Meant Something
A warrior king rides a horse.
JESUS rode a donkey.
He wasn’t coming to fight people.
He came to fight what separates people from GOD.

He was on His way to a cross.

4. So Why Do We Celebrate Palm Sunday?
a. It marks the start of JESUS’ final mission.
This was the week everything changed.
From this moment, JESUS openly walks toward the cross.
b. It was JESUS’ public declaration of who He is.
All this time, He kept things quiet. But now, He lets the crowd shout.
Not because they were right, but because the time had come.
c. It holds up a mirror.
The same crowd that shouted “Hosanna!” on Sunday…
shouted “Crucify Him!” on Friday.
That’s the danger of surface-level faith.
Palm Sunday calls us to ask:
Am I just a fan of JESUS when things look good, or am I a follower—even when the road leads to a cross?
5. What Palm Sunday Teaches Us Spiritually
a. JESUS is not always what we expect.
He didn’t come to fix governments. He came to fix hearts.

और उस राजा के पीछे चलो—
जो हमारे लिए मरने आया था, न कि हमारे मन की इच्छाएँ पूरी करने।
